A house that has seen a good many years
The house was built around 1907, sitting just in front of what was once the Catholic Church on 21st Street before it moved to Lexington in 1911, which led some to wonder if it had originally served as a nunnery. From the 1920s through the 1940s, it operated as a boarding house run by Jenny Brown and her daughters, after her husband J.W. Brown, a railroad conductor, lost an arm in an accident.
The boarding house became the family's livelihood, with the daughters selling bag lunches to railroad passengers just two blocks away. Its many bedrooms once housed notable figures in town, including baseball coach Louis "Nubby" Schreiner, Doctor Eason, and various railroad workers and clerks.
